Lot Essay

Joseph Gengenbach, known as Canabas, maître in 1766.

Canabas worked in the goût anglais and specialized in small pieces of mahogany furniture with particularly well chosen veneers. P. Kjellberg illustrates a mahogany jardinière with very similar fluting and legs in Le Mobilier Français du XVIIIe Siècle, p. 147, ill. C.
