Lot Essay

The facial types of this Baptism are close in style to the reliefs of Parroquia de Sta. Maria, Navarra, Tafalla, which depicts the Adoraton of the Magi with the same exaggerated features and stylised hair (Weise, loc. cit.). The relief is also notable for the state of preservation of the gilding and polychromy, much of which appears to be original.
