An early Victorian mahogany pedestal washstand, with rectangular hinged lid enclosing fitted interior above dummy drawer front and three drawers to one pedestal and dummy drawers to the other on plinth bases, one drawer stamped M. Willson, 68, Great Queen Street, London -- 47½in. (121cm.) wide.

Matthew Willson, of this firm of auctioneers and appraisers is recorded between 1838 - 1854. The firm seemed to have dealt in secondhand furniture rather than manufactured it; see Dictionary of English Furniture Makers 1660-1840, Beard and Gilbert, page 985.
