A Japanese fruitwood carving of a standing caparisoned elephant inlaid in the shibayama-style in stained ivory, horn, silver and glass in the form of trappings, the fringed saddle cloth surmounted by a flowerhead finial and carved with peony flowerheads and coiled dragons, the trunk curved to one side, with inset ivory tusks (some inlay and top of finial missing, part of saddle cloth loose) -- 7¼in.long.
