Lot Essay

The table-top's border and central medallion framed by a festive satyr mask and acanthus ribbon-scrolls in the arabesque manner and the stretcher-tied legs relate to furniture attributed to the specialist Amsterdam inlayers such as Jan Van Mekern and Jan Van Zanten. A cabinet with related inlay at the Rijksmuseum is illustrated in R. Baarsen, Dutch Furniture, Amsterdam, 1993, p.61.
