Album of eighty-nine gelatin silver prints, 3 x 3¾ to 4 x 6 in., titled in ink on mounts, tissue guards, title page in pencil and watercolour wash, half red morocco, gilt, oblong 8vo; with fourteen loose photographs.

Lot Essay

The photographs document the presence of the Field Force in the North West Frontier Province of India from 1897-98 under the leadership of Sir Binden Blood (1842-1940). Included are views in and around the camp, a group portrait of the Divisional Staff taken in the Bajaur Valley, a group inside the Western face of Inayat Killi entrenchment, the Fort at Chakdara, the rivers Swat and Panjkora, scenes of battle and local topography and architecture.
