The 1st Century A.D. Roman mosaic panel from which the above is copied was sold at Christie's, 12 December 1989, for (389,000. The original mosaic was said to have been discovered in the ruins of the Palace of Pope Leo XII at the Villa Chichignola and to have been presented by Pope Gregory XVI to Sir Edward Thomason in 1832
