The collection belonged to the Late Princess Marie Elisabeth of Wied of Schloss Monrepos, Neuwied (b.1880). The dresses had been worn by her grandmother and aunts, and were taken to Monrepos in 1911. This dress would have been worn either by Marie, wife of the 5th Prince of Wied, Louise (1851-1926) daughter of the King of Sweden and Norway who married the in 1869 Frederick VIII, King of Denmark or Elisabth who married Charles of Hohenzollern, 1st King of Romania. Elisabeth of Rumania was alsoknow in her capacity as a romanic poet by the name of "Carmen Sylva"
