A one page printed letter patent on paper, signed "Charles R" at the head, and with manuscript superscription to Robert, Duke of Otterton, at the foot, requesting a loan of "one hundred pounds or the value thereof in Plate" (the sum inserted in manuscript) towards the raising of a fund of "one hundred Thousand pounds" to replace feudal service and support an army against the "hostile" Scots, with printed date 14 February 1643, and receipt for the money dated in manuscript April 9 1644, broadsheet ( 11½ x 7½in.).
