COLOUR BOX MINIATURES
Peter Fagan trained at Colchester College of Art and taught for a while before taking a job as an assistant in an art studio. It was not long before he decided to branch out on his own.
In 1973 Peter Fagan established a company called Bronze Age Ltd from his own home in Lauder. He made miniature cold cast bronze figurines and sold them locally.
The business progressed rapidly and Peter Fagan began to employ local people in the production process. By 1975 he employed 10 people in a local factory in Lauder and had a network of handpainters who worked from home to paint the miniatures. In 1983 he changed the medium of his sculptures to ceramic resin and hand-painted them. The new collection was then named Colour Box. The first collection was based upon the antics of his own pet cats in nostalgic and domestic settings. Humour plays an essential part in all Peter Fagan's sculptures.
Approximately 80,000 Colour Box figurines are produced each week in the Lauder factory and are sold through some 2,000 UK retailers as well as seventeen countries worldwide.
The Colour Box Collectors' Club has been in existence since the mid 1980s. It began, as many 'tiny acorns', with modest aspirations but soon developed into a thriving self-sustained organisation. It is currently recruiting new members at the rate of one every eight minutes, throughout the working week, which is testimony to the popularity of these unique figurines.
The Limited Edition sculptures especially designed by Peter each year are exclusive to Club members.
CHILD ACCIDENT PREVENTION TRUST (CAPT)
The Child Accident Prevention Trust is a national charity which investigates the causes of accidental injury to children and promotes accident prevention by the provision of child friendly environments, product safety, education and training.
It is hard to believe that more children aged 1-16 die in accidents at home, on the road or at play than in any other way. Between two and three children die every day in the UK; that's over 800 a year. There are 10 million children in the UK and every year 2.5 million of them will be seen in a hospital Accident and Emergency department. Sadly, it is estimated that 10,000 of these children are permanently disfigured or disabled accidentally. The misery, shock and suffering experienced by many thousands of families every year cannot be counted and the sorrow of losing your child suddenly is incomparable.
The aim of the Child Accident Prevention Trust is to put child safety on the national agenda, to raise awareness of what preventive actions work, and to collaborate with a very wide range of organisations such as the Health Visitors Association and St John's Ambulance to get child safety schemes in place in your local community. You can help by supporting the following Colour Box Lots sold on behalf of CAPT.
