QUILLER-COUCH, Arthur. [The Sleeping Beauty and Other Fairy Tales] -- An 89pp. holograph manuscript for the printed work, (illustrated by Dulac and published in 1910) but including much unpublished material and revisions, comprising the Preface, Sleeping Beauty (2 versions), Blue Beard (2 versions), Cinderella (2 versions) and Beauty and the Beast, several stories signed by Quiller-Couch at the end, on loose 4° leaves secured with paper clips; also including some typed transcripts and 10 pages of proofs of the printed book with Quiller-Couch's final ammendments; and 3 similar manuscripts in his hand for Hamlet, As You Like It and The Merchant of Venice.
Arthur Quiller-Couch ('Q') (1863-1944), writer, academic and anthologist, edited The Oxford Book of English Verse (1909), was knighted in 1910 and in 1912 was appointed Professor of English Literature in Cambridge, where he was instrumental in establishing an independent honours school in that subject. His friendship with J. M. Barrie has been much documented. See Twentieth Century D.N.B.
