Pellew, dated S.A.C.A., December 4th 1958, to Robin McConnell, giving a few hints to him as an opening bat: "Firstly, the three most necessary attubutes are 1. Concentration. 2. Watching the ball at all times. 3. Footwork. Then adopt an easy sideways stance, feet about 6" apart, one being behind the crease. Hold the bat firmly, but not rigidly in any way you please, except with the back of the top hand pointing straight back towards the wicket ...;" with the original s.a.e. and a photograph of Pellew with a crowd of school boys, signed on verso, 4 x 6in.
