JAMES MAXWELL OF KIRKCONNELL

A collection of eighteen letters by James Maxwell to his sister Margaret (Peggie) written during his exile in France from June 8th 1746 and over following two years. Maxwell was a Border Jacobite who fought at Culloden escaping from the West Coast to Nantes and returned after a number of years when it was felt that nothing further could be achieved for The Jacobite Cause. Upon his return he wrote about The '45 and later authors often drew on his work;
