Lot Essay

This manuscript, written in Old Scots, contains a copy of the Black Acts which forbid the playing of golf. The pursuit of the game, because of its popularity, was considered a danger to the more useful exercise of archery.
These acts or statues were passed in the years 1457 and 1471.
