Lot Essay

Two versions of the present composition are known. J.-P. Bruyn, loc. cit, considers the present picture to be an autograph work by Quellinus, datable to circa 1640, while he believes the other version to be a studio replica. H. Vlieghe, loc. cit., however, rejects the attribution to Quellinus for the present picture.
