Lot Essay

These highly successful productions won numerous awards between them. Included in the accolades were, for Billy Elliott, the Alexander Korda award for Best British Film as well as Best Performance by an Actor in a leading role [Jamie Bell as Billy Elliot], and Best Performance by an Actress in a supporting role [Julie Walters as Mrs Wilkinson].
Both Fiddler On The Roof and The Elephant Man won Ossie Morris and Freddie Francis the distinguished British Society Of Cinematographers award for Best Cinematography in 1971 and 1980 respectively. Fiddler On The Roof received two Academy Awards and four further nominations. The Elephant Man also received eight Academy Award nominations and was fêted by the critics, Dilys Powell wrote in Punch In an age of horror movies this is a film which takes the material of horror and translates it into loving kindness..
