JAR
There is no question that Joel Rosenthal has been one of the most influential jewelry designers of the twentieth century and that he is currently without peer within this rarified world.
He has constantly been referred to as the Fabergé of the late twentieth century as well as being compared to Cartier and Lalique. However, rather than draw these parallels, because of his individuality and the extraordinary objects that he creates, JAR is a phenomenon that the world has not witnessed before. He will surely leave a legacy of artistic excellence combined with a work ethic not always associated within the intriguing world of gem merchants.
When creating an object, the spirit of the piece comes first, how it is made and how the colors of the stones paint the picture across the object are all important. His overriding passion is beauty and this is what drives the creation. Monetary equations are irrelevant until the object is finished. Semi-precious stones mingle with priceless colored diamonds and the effect is sublime.
This concept is also reflected in his business ethic, always discreet and above everything else, the manner in which a transaction is made is of paramount importance. JAR has never sought the spotlight, he faithfully works for his clients and his salon, never looking for alternative avenues to promote his name. Discretion must be observed at all times.
He is not a prolific designer which is why when objects such as these come onto the open market, it is not just another jewelry sale but an event.
