A massive English majolica two-handled jardinière, of oval section, the rim to each side applied with a grotesque mask, the rim moulded to the interior with vine leaves and to the exterior with a garland of ivy leaves above a band of gadroons, the swollen body moulded with scrolling foliage and buds issuing from four paw feet, the handles modelled as double-headed snakes issuing from foliate terminals, enriched in green, white, blue, lavender, yellow and maroon glazes (extensive damages and repairs), circa 1870, possibly Minton's -- 50½in. wide
