GIANNI GIACHIN
(24th March 1936 - 21st March 1993)
Born in Pola, Italy, Gianni Giachin came to live in London in 1955 with his parents and two sisters.
His interest in corkscrews began in the 1960s, when the foundation of his collection was built. During thirty or so years collecting corkscrews they became a passion and his fine collection of more than a thousand became well known internationally, partly through his membership of The International Correspondence of Corkscrew Addicts, The Canadian Corkscrew Collectors Club, and The Italian Corkscrew Collectors Club.
He was also for many years an active member of the Ceramics Circle where his expertise and knowledge of porcelain was highly valued.
All of the Gianni Giachin's many friends and acquaintances would attest to his generousity, kindness and good nature. He made many gifts and bequests to several of Londons most prestigious museums and galleries including The Victorian & Albert, British Museums and the Courtauld Institute.
His bequest of corkscrews to The Victoria & Albert Musuem in particular, will be seen as a fitting memorial to one whose truely a corkscrew addict.
