A Queen Anne oval tobacco box, applied with narrow rope-twist friezes, the cover finely-engraved with the arms of John Holles, Earl of Clare and Duke of Newcastle, with motto beneath and coronet above, the sides engraved:"To JOHN from ELIZABETH November 13th. 1702", the underside scratch-engraved with initials, Nathaniel Lock, London 1702 - 3¼in.

This piece is illustrated on page 49 of Starting To Collect Silver. According to a typed note this piece was once part of the collection of William Randolph Hearst and was sold by Parish-Watson & Co., of New York in about 1938.
