Manchester United won their first-ever Division 1 Championship in season 1907-08 with a then record 52 points, Aston Villa being runners-up on 43 points.
William Rothschild Deakin was elected on to the Board of Directors of Manchester United F.C., on 10th July 1907. He had been proposed by the Club President J.H. Davies, who was his colleague at the Manchester Brewery Company where Deakin was the Managing Director. During his time on the United Board Deakin became the Club Chairman, before his death in November 1919
