Patrick Gallacher was born in Bridge of Weir, Renfrewshire on 21st August 1909 and joined Sunderland ground staff in 1927 from Bridge of Weir F.C. In September 1928 he turned professional and helped the club to the Division 1 Championship in 1936 and the F.A. Cup in 1937. Gallacher made one full International appearance for Scotland against Northern Ireland in 1935 and in November 1938 he joined Stoke City for a fee of (5000.
