Lot Essay

The first edition of the Opera was edited by Theodore Gechauff and published at Basel in 1544 (this is excepting an imperfect edition by Tartaglia of 1543). The present edition differs from it considerably since Commandino was himself so mathematically gifted, and had access to previously unavailable Greek manuscripts.
