Lot Essay

The composition of this portrait is almost identical to one sold at Sotheby's London, 26 April 1994, lot 47. (See also Sotheby's New York, 21 March 1990, lots 85, 86 and 89). The crescent moon above is indicative of the Sisodia Maharanas, whose ultimate descendancy was from the sun and moon.
