Lot Essay

Czermak's laryngoscope was designed to allow the subject, who held a long-handled mirror at the back of his throat, to see his own larynx while an observer viewed through a hole in the reflecting mirror.

A similar instrument is illustrated in the 1863 Weiss catalogue.
