A mahogany and ormolu-mounted bureau a cylindre
by Paul Sormani, the top with a pierced guilloche three-quarter gallery, the tambour fall enclosing a fitted interior with drawers and pigeon holes and lined sliding writing surface flanked by foliate-decorated angles, the arched apron fitted with a central frieze drawer flanked by a deep drawer to either side, on angled cabriole legs headed by foliate scroll and trailing bead decoration and terminating in paw feet, the brass lock plate signed Paul Sormani, 10, R. Charlot, Paris, French, 19th century -- 39in. (99cm.) wide, 26in. (66cm.) deep, 42½in. (108cm.) high

This lot is offered with a black and white photograph of the bureau which bears the initials and stamped of Paul Sormani, 10, Rue Charlot, Paris (3e) and the key with the original label

Paul Sormani, 1817-c.1877 was the founder of a most successful firm producing a wide range of high quality furniture and objects. The business moved to this address in 1867 and after his death in 1877 it was continued by his widow and son until 1924
