Lot Essay

Throughout the 19th century copies of the Apollo and Diana The Huntress were paired. The idea that these two statues are related was most discussed when they were together in the Musée Napoleon. Full length versions of the two antiquities are represented in bronze at Malmaison, France and in marble at Chatsworth House, Derbyshire.
