Lot Essay

This crude form of Cloisonné -- cast brass, often referred to as 'Surrey Enamel', with its shallow cavities filled with coloured vitreous enamels, is after the work attributed to Jacob Monomia and Daniel Dametrius who founded a brass works at Esher in 1649. The work was much copied in the late 19th century from which the present examples date. Examples may be seen in the Victoria and Albert Museum.
