A MAHOGANY KNEEHOLE DESK AND ARMCHAIR, PRESENTED TO J.H.TAYLOR
The rectangular leather lined top, with moulded and egg and dart carved border above a frieze fitted with two drawers and two short drawers, the kneehole with pierced scrolled brackets, on acanthus- carved cabriole supports and pad feet, bearing a brass label inscribed Presented to J.H. Taylor Esq., by the Artisan Golfers of Great Britain, as a token of esteem and admiration, and as a humble mark of appreciation of valuable services rendered in their interests, December 1925, 58in. (122cm) wide;
and a late Victorian mahogany armchair of George III design, with yoked toprail and pierced interlaced vase-shaped splat, the hide covered seat flanked by out-scrolled armrests on square tapering supports (2)

Lot Essay

This desk and armchair were presented to the Champion Golfer J.H. Taylor by the Artisan Golfers Association of Great Britain after their meeting held at Anderton's Hotel in Fleet Street, London. (Taylor was one of the founder members of the Association). The purchase price of the desk and armchair was raised by subscription from Artisan Golfers in all parts of the country.
