The brig Result was built by Clarke in Jersey in 1863. Registered at 169 tons, she measured 106 feet in length with a 23¼ foot beam. Originally owned by P. Anley who ran her on Jersey to South America routes, in 1866 she was acquired by Nicholls & Co. who made Whitstable her home port and ran her out of London on a regular service to the West Indies.
