ROBERT BADEN-POWELL (1857-1941)
A 4-page autograph letter, signed, from Pax Hill, Bentley, Hampshire, 17th August 1934, to Lieut. Col. Harold Wyllie, thanking him for a visit and stating: "It was a real pleasure for me to see the old ship in such good order and doing such valuable work for the nation in her old age ... I have since been delighted to hear from Admiral Thesiger that you and some of your staff have proved your interest by becoming Deep Sea Scouts ... On my return home I found awaiting me a present for the movement in the shape of a gold watch belonging to the late Capt. Goodson ... and a book ... the major interest of it lay in the fact that it was partly illustrated by your late father."
A second letter of 2 pages, signed, from Grant Arms Hotel, Grantown on Spey, 26th September 1937, to Wyllie thanking him for: "all that you have so kindly done for the Boy Scouts and the Girl Guides during the past season. It was indeed an innovation to allow a female crew aboard they all agreed they had the time of their lives and that it did them all a world of good ... your understanding direction will have their effect, in one way or another on the rest of their lives;" and two other items.
