ALBERT EINSTEIN (1879-1955)
A 3-page autograph letter in German with one integral blank, dated 28. III. 24 [no address], to his maternal uncle, César Koch, expressing great affection and wishing his favourite uncle a happy birthday (in fine condition excepting small nicks to the page edges).
Although he does not write very much, his uncle is, in fact, one of the very few people who bring warmth to his heart whenever he thinks of them. Even when he was very young, a visit from his uncle was a special occasion, "und ich werde auch Zeit meines Lebens an das wunderhübsche Dampfmaschinchen denken, das du mir mitbrachtest, als du einmal von Russland kamst" ("and I will remember all my life the wonderfully pretty little steam driven engine you gave me when you came back from Russia once"). He draws a diagram of the engine as a reminder of what it looked like, and asks if his uncle still recalls it. Another event was his uncle's visit to Munich with his young woman, and the occasion of his uncle's marriage to Susannah in Antwerp. Unforgettable memories have remained. He has often wanted to visit but there was always something in the way to foil his intentions. Now his uncle is celebrating his 70th birthday, and his own hair is grey too. He sends well wishes to his uncle's children and his beautiful aunt, and signs the letter "von Deinem Albert."
