Details
JOHN MASEFIELD (1878-1967)
Three one-page autograph letters, signed but undated, to Perry Robinson [of The Times], concerning the submission of a poem. In one, he agrees to try and write a poem for the paper but is doubtful about having much success: "if the results be poor, they must not appear." In another letter, he apologises for not being able to produce anything: "the subject is beyond me at this time". A third letter encloses a typed poem entitled "Any Dead to any Living" which opens: "Boast not about our score. Think this :- There was no need Of such a Sack of Youth As burned our lives;" and 2 other autograph items. (3)
