JOHN EVERETT MILLAIS (1829-1896)
A printer's proof of a newspaper article entitled "Painting a Big Picture," with numerous ink corrections in Millais' hand. The article transcribes an interview in which the artist describes his methods and considers in detail his position in relation to the Pre-Raphaelites, expressing his nostalgia for that period in his career and reflecting on the censure he received at the time in the light of the amounts currently being paid for his pictures.
Seven autograph letters, signed, altogether 12 pages, 1846-1896, including one dated 4th May 1869, to Mr. Hodgeson, thanking him for his contribution to the Artist's General Benevolent Fund, illustrated with a sketch of a crocodile swallowing money and affirming that: "the Institution has capacious Jaws."
Together with a signed card and other memorabilia. (a lot)
