Lot Essay

Tipped-in at the front of Conan Doyle's autobiography is a one page letter by Doyle on headed paper with address of The Psychic Book Shop, Abbey House, 2 Victoria Street, Westiminster, dated April 27 [no year], to Mrs Shayler, apologising for not calling, then saying: "You will have seen that we carried the Union for spiritualism. The young generation seems the more receptive than its olders," and adding as a post-script: "Dennis passed all right and has 18 months preliminary work to do in medicine."
