In the 1896-97 F.A.Cup final, played at the Crystal Palace before 65,000 spectators, Aston Villa defeated Everton 3-2.

The monogram engraved on the above medal is unclear and from our researches we have been unable to ascertain who captained the Everton side in the 1897 F.A. Cup final.
