Edo Period (Late 17th/early 18th Century)
Painted in underglaze blue, iron-red, green and gilt with four large alternate panels enclosing peony and chrysanthemum, on a blue ground enriched with magnolia-heads below a shaped floral border around the shoulder, all between borders of cranes divided by cash coins at the neck and base, the domed cover surmounted by a bird of prey perched on rockwork, restored
