A SUMERIAN LAPIS LAZULI AMULET OF A BULL
EARLY DYNASTIC III PERIOD, 2650-2350 B.C.
The reclining bull with bearded human head, curved horns, pierced twice vertically, ½ in. (1.5 cm.) high; a Mesopotamian pink stone stamp seal, in the form of a reclining bull, base with three dogs; another similar in green calcite; a white stone stamp seal in the form of a reclining boar, the base with two gazelles, all Late Uruk/Jemdet Nasr period 3300-2900 B.C.; a Minoan brown-yellow cornelian amygdaloid seal, with linear motif, 2nd millennium B.C.; a cream stone tabloid seal, with mouflon, 3rd millennium B.C.; a Neo-Babylonian cream stone stamp seal, of pyramidal form, engraved with figure carrying staff, late 7th-5th Century B.C.; and a Sassanian chalcedony stamp seal with inscription, 4th-7th Century A.D., 1¾ in. (4.5 cm.) long max. (8)
