Lot Essay

A more formalised treatment of this subject exists in the form of Moreelse's Allegorical Portrait of Sophia Hedwig, Countess of Nassau Dietz, as Charity, with her Children, a picture of 1621, in Het Loo, Apeldoorn. The figures in the present picture would not appear to be portraits.
