AN OAK LINEN FOLD CHEST, PROBABLY FRENCH, LATE 16TH CENTURY
with a replaced lid, the front with four linenfold panels flanked by scratch carved and punch marked channelling, the central section with foliate lozenge filled panel and bearing the date 1601, the sides with twin linenfold panels, on stile feet, the lid carved with the rhyme Of husband dothe husbandrie challenge that name, of husbandrie husband dothe likewise ye same, where his wife & huswiferie joineth wyth these, there wealth in abundance is gotten wythe ease -- 45in. (114cm.) wide, 28in. (77cm.) high, 23½in. (60cm.) deep
