A French carved boxwood snuff rasp cover, 18th century
the tapering form, carved with the figure of John the Baptist, inscribed St. JEAN BT, beneath dated 1732, the reverse with two channels, above an arched cresting with traces of a carved winged angel head, indistinct initials carved above the opening at the base -- 7½in. (19cm.) high
