PENFOLDS GRANGE
Widely heralded as Australia's finest and longest lived wine, Grange has reached beyond its home shores to conquer the palates of America and England alike. Unique among the top wines of the world, Grange is a compilation of the finest vineyard resources under the Penfolds umbrella. Curiously, it is not purely Shiraz as small portions of Cabernet Sauvignon occasionally lend its magic to the blend. We are proud to present the following vertical, including the near perfect 1986.
Penfolds Grange--Vintage 1981
Barossa Valley, South Australia
"It has always exhibited phenomenal quantities of ripe fruit, an opulent, sweet palate, a dark purple color, and gobs of glycerin and alcohol in the lusty finish. At some tastings, it appeared to be cut from the same cloth as the glorious 1971 and 1976. At other times it revealed a rustic side. In this tasting, it ranked as one of the great wines of the eighties, rivaling the 1982 and being eclipsed only by the nearly perfect 1986." Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, Issue 100, 8/31/95
