"This has to be my favourite vintage of Beaucastel although it is still some way from optimum maturity. Very deep in colour just a hint of bricking at the rim. Thick legs cling to the glass. Potent stuff liquorice, tar, game, pepper, spice the smell of Provence captured in the glass. A hint of confection and masses of red berry fruit. Fabulous on the palate: sweet, succulent, layered, warm spicy. Tannins still firm, great length. Superb now but yet to show its best. In a line up of 15 Beaucastel vintages served from jeroboam at the recent birthday party of a fanatical Beaucastel(and Crystal Palace) supporter it was deservedly voted the wine of the evening. T.H."
