WICKED WITCH PROP FROM "THE WIZARD OF OZ"
MGM, 1939
A miniature model of the Wicked Witch wearing her black garb as she sits on a broom. Made of composite, cloth and other materials, this piece is seen in two key sequences: first when the Witch, as portrayed by Margaret Hamilton, puts a spell on the poppy field and then flys away on her broom while exclaiming, "As fast as lightning to Emerald City" and then in the skywriting scene when she spells out, "Surrender Dorothy." A small device that created the smoke effect in this scene is still evident in the broom which is made of metal so it wouldn't catch fire. This piece was also used for display purposes at Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, California during the premiere in August 1939. A custom-made acrylic and wood case which protects this special prop is included.
Model Size: 8 inches x 12 inches Case: 17 inches x 21 inches x 15 inches
