Lot Essay

In a career that spanned more than six decades of uninterrupted artistic production, David Alfaro Siqueiros produced only three still-lifes. Painted in 1953, Calabaza is the second and least known interpretation of the trio. When compared to the earlier version of the same motif titled Calabazas (1946), our latter example equally expresses Siqueiros' characteristic radience.
