DUVERGER, M.E. Album Typographique de l'Imprimerie Royale. Paris: Imprimerie Royale, 1830.
2° (337 x 241mm). Half-title, title, and 30 leaves, some printed on both sides, including dedication to the King and Queen of the Two Sicilies printed in gold, one full-page chromolithographic illustration, Chinese script printed on yellow paper and mounted, lithographic map in two states, uncoloured and coloured, one leaf of music printed in blue and brown, and 6 colour-printed xylographic plates after Aimé Chenavard. (Occasional light spotting.) Contemporary crimson morocco gilt, sides with the arms of duc de Bourbon, prince de Condé [Olivier 2637, fer 2] enclosed by gilt rules with elaborate corner-pieces, and an outer dentelle and roll-tool floral border, flat spine in three ornately-tooled panels, gilt turn-ins, blue watered silk endpapers, modern protective cloth box. Provenance: Louis-Henri-Joseph de Bourbon, duc de Bourbon, prince de Condé (1756-1830, armorial binding).
A RARE TYPOGRAPHICAL WORK, ENHANCED BY A FINE ARMORIAL BINDING FOR THE DUC DE BOURGOGNE, PRINCE DE CONDé, who was then living in retirement in England. The album was published to coincide with the visit of Francis I (1777-1830) and Isabella, daughter of Charles IV of Spain, to the Imprimerie Royale in 1830. The introductory verses are followed by 34 examples of ancient and modern typefaces, the map in two states showing the connecting route between France, Spain and the two Sicilies, stereotyped music, and proofs of colour-printed wood-engravings, produced by new methods intended to end the dominance of English printing. Berlin Kat. 5421.
