A makemono, watercolour on paper
19th century
depicting a continuous scene of warriors in battle on foot and horseback in rocky landscapes, seated in a military encampment and walking in procession, bijin and further warriors seated to the interior of a pavilion overlooking a riverside garden -- 402.5in. (603.7cms) long, (some scattered light water staining); and a further makemono in sumi and colour on paper depicting studies of robes, shoes, dignitaries and warriors -- 700in. (1050cms.) long in total.
