A large Satsuma baluster vase
circa 1900
with slightly flaring tapering neck, boldly decorated in enamels and gilt with a writhing Buddhistic lion and emblems, the reverse with peonies sprays and scrolling foliage, all within borders of lappets and key-fret pattern -- 18 1/8in. (46cm.) high, (some rubbing), signed in blue enamel and incised Satsuma-yaki Toshikatsu.
