Lot Essay

Three similar stools were sold from the collection of Mr. & Mrs. Robert Tritton, Godmersham Park, Christie's house sale, 6-9 June 1983, lots 21-22. A pair, sold as lot 21 in the Godmersham house sale, are in the Gerstenfeld Collection (E. Lennox-Boyd, ed., Masterpieces of English Furniture: The Gerstenfeld Collection, London, 1998, no. 55, p. 220 & pl. 52). Another example from the Showering collection, was sold in these Rooms, 21 November 1985, lot 158.
