Lot Essay

Eugene Julienne (fl.1800-1874) was a painter on porclain at Sevres. In 1856 he painted two vases for the King of France to give the King of Portugal. He also produced lithographs including the cover for Traite du Coloris des Lithographies, by Meilhal, 1836. He is known to have painted two other fans: Francois I at court, sold Christie's South Kensington, 25 May, 1999, lot 279; and the Crowning of St. Ursula.
